Although John Wall has yet to slip on his LA Clippers jersey, his recent declaration has forced oddsmakers to rethink their upcoming title prognostications.

After spending the better part of the past three seasons on the sidelines, Wall and the Houston Rockets, his former team, have agreed to terms on a buyout. Wall sulked during the 2021-22 season, as Houston placed a priority on the development of their younger stars. But, despite their refusal to play him on a nightly basis, Wall was continually spotted working tirelessly on his craft in the gym.

With the former five-time All-Star agreeing to forgo $6.5 million of his upcoming $47.4 million dollar contract and agreeing to join the Clippers, the betting world has taken notice.

John Wall shifts the pendulum of power with oddsmakers

Before Wall initially dropped the news, WynnBET had the Clippers pegged as the fourth likely team to win it all at +750. Now, however, Wall’s impending addition has vaulted them past the Boston Celtics for the second-best odds at +700. Though Wall’s All-Star capabilities are expected to push LA one step closer to their championship goals, ultimately, oddsmakers are of the belief that the Golden State Warriors will thwart their lofty aspirations.

In what developed into a nightmarish-level season last year, LA kept their injury-depleted roster together with duct tape, glue, and never ending lineup changes. With Kawhi Leonard cheering on his teammates from the sidelines as he nursed a torn ACL, coupled with Paul George missing 51 games with torn ligaments in his right elbow, LA scratched and clawed their way to 42 victories.

Presently, both LA stars appear on track to make a full recovery. And while head coach Ty Lue expressed a deep and unrelenting faith in current point guard Reggie Jackson, Wall would appear to be an upgrade. When last seen, the former All-NBA performer averaged 20.6 points and 6.9 assists during the 2020-21 NBA season.

Although he sat reluctantly on the sidelines for the entirety of the 2021-22 league year, the betting world doesn’t appear to be concerned about his possible ring rust. In fact, they believe that with his addition, the Clippers have become true title contenders.
