4. Karl Anthony Towns & Anthony Edwards

  • Karl Anthony Towns Minnesota stats: 24.7 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 1.1 bpg
  • Anthony Edwards’ Minnesota stats: 20.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 3.4 apg

Karl Anthony Towns always had the look of a superstar. The former number one overall pick normally walks onto the court and wreaks havoc. Yet, despite dropping well over 25 points and grabbing 11 boards, the Minnesota Timberwolves would end their night on the wrong end of a 20-plus point defeat. Anthony Edwards has effectively changed life for the Timberwolves.

In only two seasons, Edwards is averaging 20.3 points per game, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists. It’s been a long time since Minnesota has had a perimeter player of Edwards’ capabilities. Actually, have they ever?

In what amounted to a breakout year this past season, not only did the Timberwolves nab a postseason berth but both Edwards and Towns played terrifically. Edwards, as just a 20-year-old, placed his name in the NBA’s annals. He would go on to drop 25.2 points a night while Towns, despite being plagued with consistent foul trouble, averaged 21.8 points per game and 10.8 rebounds before being shown the door by the Memphis Grizzlies.

Defensively, neither player appears interested or capable of stopping anyone. Offensively, on the other hand, they could be the best big man – little man combination in the entire league already. Neither player is afraid to attack the hole, and both possess outstanding midrange and 3-point balls. If Minnesota, not known for its championship aspirations, continue to make postseason runs, it’ll be because of these two.
