The LA Clippers had high hopes heading into the season. Even with Kawhi Leonard expected to miss much of the year, with the multiple-time All-Star healing well from a torn ACL, a return to the court at the tail end of the season was very much a possibility.

In the meantime, the rest of the Clippers needed to keep the ship afloat. With Paul George leading the way, they were doing just that. The Clippers were above .500 and were safely above the play-in cutoff line.

Unfortunately for the Clippers, however, things have taken a turn for the worse. George’s elbow injury has led to a ripple effect. Without him, the Clippers have fallen a bit by the wayside. Also, if he opts for elbow surgery and subsequently misses the rest of the season, it will make no sense for Leonard to return.

Let’s just say the absolute worst happens. George goes under the knife and misses the remainder of the year and Leonard opts to start fresh next season. If that happens, it’s time for a fire sale. The Clippers shouldn’t get rid of everyone, especially considering that they’ll be back in the title picture next year. But, there are a few inconsequential pieces on their roster that they should be looking to ship out with the trade deadline right around the corner.
