3 players the Clippers should target before the trade deadline: 3. Dennis Schroder

Dennis Schroder is still kicking himself over the gigantic financial blunder he made last season. The talented point guard had himself a terrific year with the Oklahoma City Thunder during the 2019-20 season. He averaged 18.9 points, 5.8 assists, and career highs from the field of 46.9% to go along with a steady 3-point percentage at 35.9%.

Yet, for some inexplicable reason, he overplayed his hand and as a result, turned down an $84 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers last season. With the open market not particularly robust, Schroder signed a pretty paltry deal with the Boston Celtics for $5.9 million. While he’s been terrific for them, averaging 15.7 points and 4.7 assists, the Celtics aren’t in any position to re-sign him next year.

The Clippers are strapped for cash as well but getting their hands on Schroder isn’t a long-term play. Schroder would be a welcomed addition to a team that already has a pretty solid bench. With Terance Mann, Luke Kennard, and even newly signed James Ennis averaging double figures, the Clippers will be in the perfect position to compete with Schroder as long as both Paul George and Kawhi Leonard return at some point this year.
