No. 1 way the Paul George trade altered the LA Clippers franchise’s future: It’s made the front office better

Yes, the Paul George trade has actually even improved the front office of the LA Clippers.

The Clippers had one draft pick this year. It was in the first round, but just one. They were supposed to have another first round pick from Miami, but traded it in the deal.

The Clippers ended up with three draft picks on Draft Day. They found crafty ways to trade back into the draft and get great value selections in both Jason Preston and Brandon Boston Jr.

It proved that this front office can manage even without the draft picks that they are not going to have moving forward due to the five first round selections that we traded to the Thunder.

And they did more than manage. They’ve now proven to themselves that they can have a very good draft day despite not entering with many picks. I see this as a confidence builder, and something that’s going to encourage them to do this in future years.

It’s still important to build through the draft, and the Clips have seemed to find ways to emphasize that even with few picks.

This trade made so much sense for the Clippers.
