The LA Clippers have made a huge step as a franchise today, agreeing to a 23-year naming rights deal worth over half a billion dollars with Intuit, a software company to name their new arena.
The Intuit Dome is the name, and it looks beautiful. They are now set to break ground on this new arena, which marks a giant day for this franchise.
Things are really beginning to look up for this Los Angeles franchise.
Steve Ballmer has continued to make strides with this LA Clippers franchise.
Since Steve Ballmer took over the franchise ahead of the 2014-2015 season, the LA Clippers have been over .500 every season, they’ve made the playoffs in six of the seven years, they’ve won a playoff series three times, and they made the Western Conference Finals this year.
Now, they’re making another move to distinguish themselves in the city of LA and building their own arena. It looks amazing:
I’m really impressed with these fans, and know that the fans are going to love it.
The arena will open in time for the 2024-2025 season.
It’ll hold 18,000 people, and that ‘halo’ video screen is going to be one of the biggest features of the arena. It is going to feature 44,000 square feet of LED lighting. That’s about six times the average amount of NBA arenas.
Ballmer wants technology to be a major part of the experience. He’s going as far as to plan a system where a fan can leave their seat, grab a concession item, and head right back without having to talk or deal with anybody. The money would go ahead and be charged to their account right away.
He wants the fans to be able to have as little time away from their seat as possible so they can contribute to the home-court advantage as much as possible.
It’s a brilliant idea from somebody who has become one of the richest people in the world in large part due to his intelligence in the technological world.
The Clippers have been making major strides as a franchise in recent years, and this one certainly gets highlighted on their list of accomplishments since Ballmer has been in charge.
