No. 1 way for the LA Clippers to unlock Keon Johnson’s potential next season: Let him be aggressive with ball pressure
The LA Clippers need to have Keon Johnson be aggressive with pressuring opposing ballhandlers.
He needs to be like Patrick Beverley on defense, pressuring the ball and not giving an inch when his man has possession.
If he overplays his man and he gets by him, there are likely going to be four good defensive players behind him who can help. Therefore, the rewards will certainly outweigh the risks.
I can see a lot of steals coming from Johnson if he can play this aggressive style of defense. And if Johnson does get a steal, it’s over for the other team. He’s very quick, and can finish.
Seeing Johnson in many fast break possessions would be a dream come true next year.
Seeing Johnson playing well in itself would be a dream come true. The Clips truly did have a great draft this year, when they were originally only even supposed to just have one draft pick.
Part of the reason they drafted so well was the selection of Johnson in the first round. He’s going to be a solid NBA player, and that journey begins in 2021.
