No. 2 way for the LA Clippers to unlock the potential of Reggie Jackson next season: Let him be flexible
Reggie Jackson is very good for the LA Clippers at both guard positions. He’s got the qualities that a good shooting guard has. He’s quick, he can slash, he’s agile, and he can shoot.
The Clippers recently traded for Eric Bledsoe. That deal has a lot of potential, and Ty Lue may try to run both Jackson and Bledsoe at the same time.
If this happens, Lue needs to make sure Bledsoe is running the point. Bledsoe regressed very much as a shooting guard last year. If they’re both out there, Lue needs to use Jackson’s versatility and move him to the wing.
That way the team is getting the most out of Bledsoe, and Jackson is still excelling in a role he is very good in. In the past two years with the Clippers, Jackson has been primarily a two guard in the regular season. In those two seasons, he’s shot better than he ever has in his career (45% from the field and 42.9% from deep).
Part of putting Jackson in the best situation to succeed is using his wide set of tools when needed.
