No. 1 rotation mistake Coach Ty Lue must avoid: Eric Bledsoe playing on the wing
I really don’t like the idea of Eric Bledsoe playing on the wing for the LA Clippers.
Bledsoe playing on the wing is where he was at his worst. As soon as he stopped handling the ball as consistently (AKA last season), he struggled. Lonzo Ball was the primary point guard for New Orleans, and Bledsoe struggled in a two-guard role.
His defense wasn’t as strong, getting left off the All-Defensive rosters for the first time in three years. He averaged 2.7 less points per game than his 14.9 two seasons ago, and his free throw shooting wasn’t any good at 68.7%.
He shot 42.1% from the field when he switched to the two-guard spot. He shot 48% in the two years prior as the starting point guard.
For any lineups with both Bledsoe and Jackson, Lue needs to make sure that Bledsoe is running the point. It’s where he’s best, and Jackson will be just fine as a two.
Lue should be able to nail each of these, but they need to be big points of emphasis for this upcoming season.
