No. 2 reason DeMar DeRozan will regret his decision: He’ll be playing with much lesser coaching

DeMar DeRozan will now miss out on playing with an elite coach.

Let me recap Ty Lue’s career so far:

In his first (not even full) season in this league, he won an NBA title against the best regular season team of all time. After that, he won the Eastern Conference in back-to-back years. He was an incredibly sharp thorn in the side of DeRozan, who lost to Lue in all three of those years.

Lue knows the ins and outs of DeRozan’s game, and was able to stop him every single time. DeRozan had a chance to play with the coach who knows him so well, and he passed it up for Billy Donovan.

Yes, Donovan, who has been a walking first-round exit since he blew a 3-1 lead to the Warriors team who Lue beat in the NBA Finals. This year, he of course didn’t even make the playoffs.

Since Lue’s success vs. DeRozan, he went to our Clippers of course. In his first year with the team, he dealt with the most injuries in the NBA and still got to the Western Conference Finals.

There’s really no comparison between the two coaches. He will regret choosing Donovan over Lue.
