No. 1 reason Serge Ibaka made the right decision by opting in with the LA Clippers: He’s going to put up numbers
Serge Ibaka is going to put up big-time numbers with the LA Clippers this year.
Last year, Ibaka finished second in rebounds per game on the Clippers at 6.7. The highest was Zubac, who was at 7.2.
With the Clippers consistently playing with smaller lineups, Ibaka is typically going to be the Clipper nearest the rim at almost all times when he’s on the floor. He’s going to be called upon to crash the boards.
The rebounds will be coming to Ibaka more than almost anyone on the team. Also, he’ll be guarding the paint more than anybody. His block total is going to be up there.
He’ll have the chance to play his game. He’s a two-time block champ and a three-time All-Defensive selection, and the defensive fit on the Clips is perfect.
Also, with the Clips constantly shooting more and more threes, he’ll have the chance to put his three-point stroke on display as well. He’s a 35.9% three-point shooter over the course of his career, and he’ll be getting consistent looks there.
It’s a great fit for Ibaka, and one he couldn’t have gotten anywhere else. Ibaka opting into his deal works well for both parties involved.
