NBA Draft 2021: Why Brandon Boston Jr. is right pick for LA Clippers
By Evan Desai
The LA Clippers got really nice value at the 51st pick with Brandon Boston Jr.
Boston hails from one of the best NBA factories in the country in Kentucky. Wherever Kentucky Head Coach John Calipari goes, he churns out NBA talent.
Like the entire Kentucky program last season, Boston unfortunately didn’t live up to the hype. As a 6’7″ small forward, he only put up 11.5 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game, and 1.6 assists per game. He shot 35.5% from the field and 30% from deep.
I know; those are lackluster numbers. But Boston wouldn’t have been the fifth-ranked high school player in the country (all recruiting stats in this piece are according to 247 Sports) just a year ago if he wasn’t immensely talented.
The LA Clippers selected Brandon Boston due to his upside.
Brandon Boston was the number one shooting guard recruit in the country last year, and the LA Clippers clearly remember.
Even last year when he disappointed in college, he still rebounded well for a small forward, and played solid defense.
Defense has seemed to be a theme in this draft. Boston had 1.3 steals per game for Kentucky.
What it’s going to come down to is whether Boston can find that magic he had when it came to scoring the basketball. And he’s got it.
One doesn’t just lose that type of talent, and his talent was straight up ridiculous. If you only look at stats, you’ll miss all that he’s capable of.

If you skipped it, scroll right back up and watch it right this second. I’m serious. If you don’t take the time to study Boston, you’re missing the type of greatness that could be on its way to the Clippers.
I’ve been watching his Sierra Canyon highlights nonstop ever since he was drafted myself. He’s coming back home to Southern California, where he’ll be more comfortable.
He was built to be a Clipper, and can absolutely resurrect that offensive game. We have one of the best coaches in the NBA, and we’ll get his mojo back.
