No. 1 reason the LA Clippers should re-sign DeMarcus Cousins: His 2021 playoff performance
DeMarcus Cousins hadn’t had a ton of playoff experience before he signed with the LA Clippers, and didn’t look like his best self in the eight games he had.
That all changed this year in the postseason. When both Zubac and Ibaka were both hurt in the Western Conference Finals, Cousins played very well.
I previously mentioned that he drew double-teams, but it wasn’t even just the matchups he created that helped the team. He had a playoff career-high 15 points in Game 5, along with three assists. He was 7 of 12 from the field in that game.
He did that while playing just 11 minutes. He also recorded a steal in Game 5, as well as in Game 6. He blocked a shot in Game 6 too.
Game 6 was another game where he didn’t play much, but made his 14 minutes count. He hit two of three three-point shots, and scored 12 points.
At this point in his career, Cousins isn’t a guy who can play a ton of minutes. When he got his chance, however, he was efficient.
The Clippers should definitely have Cousins in mind for the 2021-2022 season.
