No. 2 reason the LA Clippers should re-sign Reggie Jackson: Who would replace him?

If the LA Clippers don’t re-sign Reggie Jackson this offseason, who would be next in line?

The answer would be Beverley. Beverley plays lockdown defense often, but was also exposed in the Dallas Mavericks series by an unfavorable matchup for him vs. a bigger guard in Luka Doncic.

Beverley is still a very good defender, but if he starts and finds himself in that situation here and there, who’s going to come in for him?

The next point guard on the roster would be Rajon Rondo, and it’s hard to trust him given his atrocious play during the postseason this year.

If the Clippers lost Jackson, they’re losing offense that Beverley has always struggled to produce. Despite starting almost every game he played in during the 2020-2021 regular season, Bev averaged just 7.5 points per game.

Jackson just averaged 17.8 in the playoffs.

Beverley hasn’t averaged four or more assists per game in a season since the 2016-2017 season.

The three-time All-Defensive selection provides plenty on defense, but the Clips would be losing a ton offensively if Jackson leaves, and don’t have a ton of money to spend on a new free agent point guard.
