The LA Clippers might still be in the thick of a championship chase but it’s never too early to start thinking about next season and free agency. Tuesday’s game against the Toronto Raptors has already begun to fuel theories, this time centered around point guard Kyle Lowry.

Do Kyle Lowry’s Instagram posts mean anything for the LA Clippers in free agency this summer?

If you didn’t see the posts, here’s a Reddit post that captures them all. The three posts were all on Lowry’s story and have since expired. In the three photos, Lowry is with Jerry West, Serge Ibaka, and Marcus Morris.

In a vacuum, these probably mean nothing and just seem to be photos of Lowry with someone he admires and two friends. Given the trade deadline buzz, however, there might be a little more to it. In case you don’t remember, there were heavy rumors that the LA Clippers and Kyle Lowry had a mutual interest at the trade deadline.

Obviously, no deal was made and Lowry stayed on the Raptors but he could move on at the end of the season.

Toronto is looking to get younger and just signed Fred VanVleet to a big extension, making the 35-year-old Lowry expendable. It almost seems like a foregone conclusion that the two parties will separate, so it’s just a matter of where Lowry wants to go and how much money he is going to demand.

The Clippers cannot afford to pay him much given they will also be looking to re-sign Kawhi Leonard. Still, they could potentially lose two key rotation point guards this offseason in Patrick Beverley and Reggie Jackson and Lowry would likely be seen as an upgrade over both.

By coming to LA, Lowry could be part of another championship contender while in a key role and would have a chance to reunite with Serge Ibaka and Kawhi Leonard, two key members of the 2018-19 championship Toronto Raptors. The on the court fit makes sense as well, as Lowry works well as a distributor as well as a scorer, something the Clips could use at the starting point guard position.
