3. Tyronn Lue has to decide what guards the LA Clippers will play

Unlike the center position where the LA Clippers have a limited number of players who should be getting minutes, the guard position has a few too many. Here is everyone listed as a guard:

  • Patrick Beverley
  • Reggie Jackson
  • Rajon Rondo
  • Luke Kennard
  • Yogi Ferrell

We know that Ferrell won’t get any meaningful minutes, so we can eliminate him from the jump. What happens with the rest of the guys, though?

Presumably, Patrick Beverley will get his starting spot back when he is finally able to return. In his stead, Reggie Jackson has done well as the starter. But if he’s not starting, what does his role become?

We know Rajon Rondo will be running the second unit. Do you plug Jackson next to him as more of a spot-up shooter? How many minutes will he really be getting, especially if Ty decides to stagger his superstars? George may be listed as a forward but we know he will start at the two spot. He might move down and play some small forward when Leonard sits but he still limits just how many minutes will be open at the guard position.

We can also assume that Luke Kennard will fall out of the rotation completely. His time this season has completely up and down so he’s definitely the odd man out. What happens to Terance Mann, though?

Mann brings a downhill attack on offense and energy that the Clips don’t get elsewhere. Is Ty going to cut that out of the rotation entirely or will Mann be able to find spot minutes?

Having too much talent isn’t a bad thing but Ty has some choices to weigh before the LA Clippers get into the postseason.
