LA Clippers Guard: Terance Mann

By far the most pleasant surprise this season has been the rise of Terance Mann. The second-year second-round pick has burst onto the scene and given the LA Clippers not only youth but a spark of energy off the bench that they lacked.

After barely sniffing the court last season (41 games), Mann has found himself as a key part of this team’s rotation. He attacks the rim with almost a reckless abandon – something the Clippers don’t get a lot of.

The biggest surprise from Mann, however, has been his ability to hit three-pointers. We don’t have quite enough of a sample size just yet to say he’s a good shooter but his 38.6% from deep on 1.2 attempts per game at least will make defenders think twice about completely sagging off of him after reading the scouting report.

Mann is also a huge Rondo fanboy which could greatly benefit him as the season goes. His already improved play could reach another level with Rondo’s tutelage.

As a shot in the arm for this Clippers’ roster, I don’t see how Mann doesn’t see some time on the court in the postseason. Sure, he lacks experience in the playoffs (Thanks, Doc) but there is only one way he can get that experience. Having him on the court not only will benefit this team now but will also benefit them going forward as Mann is under contract for several more years.

Verdict

Given Mann’s unique ability to attack the rim, I see him being the third guard behind Rondo and Beverley. Jackson and Kennard will probably see time but might both have short leashes given their downsides. Regardless, having too many talented guards is a good thing and Ty should be pleased that he can go to any of them should one player go out with an injury.
