LA Clippers 3rd Best Player Candidate: Marcus Morris

While based on his role with previous teams and his contract is the third-largest on the Clippers’ books, Marcus Morris should get the nod – keyword being should.

This is no knock on Mook. He has been fantastic for the team, averaging over 12 points and four rebounds per game while shooting better than 46 percent from range as he’s alternated between a starting and sixth man role.

Morris is making roughly $15 million. This is totally earned. The Clippers traded for him at last season’s trade deadline for a reason. He can bring great defense and multi-level scoring to a team – that’s exactly what he did on his team before LAC. On the New York Knicks, Morris averaged 19.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Sure it was a case of best-player-on-a-bad-team, but nonetheless, Morris proved he was capable. Asking him to produce those numbers again for the Clippers would be a tall order, especially while sharing the ball with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George and coming off the bench for 28 of his 38 games.

Still, Morris is capable of scoring, and I know I’m not alone in wanting him to get a bigger role. If he got to the point of 16+ points per game on his same efficient shooting, he would probably get the nod, but until then, he is an honorable mention.
