The LA Clippers were a little active around the trade deadline, making a move to bring in Rajon Rondo for Lou Williams. While this will be the more talked about move, it was the deal that sent Mfiondu Kabengele away and opened up a roster spot that could have more impact.

Now, with that open spot, the Clippers are looking to shore up their big man rotation with two apparent big names expected to hit the buyout market in the coming days.

The LA Clippers reportedly are interviewing both Andre Drummond and LaMarcus Aldridge.

Both of these reports come via Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

Andre Drummond is set to meet with several contenders including the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics. Notably, the Brooklyn Nets are missing from that list after they had been linked to Drummond several times in the past few weeks.

Drummond is just 27 years old and his stats this year in Cleveland are in line with previous years. His best talent is rebounding, something any team could always use more of. The Clippers aren’t a bad rebounding team, per se, ranking twelfth in the league but Drummonds offensive glass capabilities (4.0 per game) could certainly help them. The Clippers are nineteenth in that stat.

He would also give the Clippers more size outside of Ivica Zubac. He’s someone they could throw against bigger teams like the Denver Nuggets who could potentially take advantage of Serge Ibaka on the defensive end.

LaMarcus Aldridge is interesting and might just be more of a due diligence move. The 35-year-old forward doesn’t add a lot that the Clippers need. Sure, he can still score and spread the floor but feels like a somewhat redundancy of what the team added in Serge Ibaka this offseason. Yes, he would be better insurance for the big men than Patrick Patterson is but I’m not quite sure what else he offers this roster.

Regardless, the front office sees some way he could help and will pursue him. Right now, Miami is considered the favorite especially given they can offer him a starting role after moving Kelly Olynyk at the trade deadline.

With both Serge Ibaka and Ivica Zubac having solid seasons, the LA Clippers cannot offer either player as big of a role as other teams. They also cannot offer the most money, something that may factor in. The front office will have to sell their title chances as the main selling point as well as the culture that has been cultivated.
