LA Clippers: Clipperholics Mailbag Episode 2
LA Clippers Mailbag Question #2
Is Paul George moveable for anything that improves this franchise – another All-Star caliber guard and/or first-round picks? Is Luke Kennard moveable for…anything? Do we finally make the Lou Williams/Patrick Beverley/Ivica Zubac move for Terry Rozier/Kyle Lowry?
As you can see, there are three questions here so we’ll just tackle them separately.
The first one is simple. No. They aren’t trading Paul George. Let me qualify that, actually. They aren’t trading Paul George this season. I’m not going to ever say never, especially since we are all aware of what happened with Blake Griffin but to think they will move PG this season is asinine.
PG has been great and is a key part of this roster. The leftover hate from last season is something that absolutely boggles my mind and honestly, people need to move on. If he disappoints again in the playoffs, then maybe we can have this conversation but for now, stop it.
Now, the Luke Kennard question is interesting. I don’t think he’s immovable but finding a team that is okay with his extension is improbable. I pondered yesterday if the Pacers might be interested in taking him back in a Myles Turner trade in order to get young shooting but couldn’t even convince myself they would and that’s while remembering that shooting is at a premium in this league.
The team is likely better off hanging on to him, seeing how he does next year if Lou Williams leaves and he gets a more prominent role and deciding from there.
For the last question…
I don’t see it happening. Kyle Lowry has been dismissive of trade rumors and even if he’s just trying to save face, the Clippers just have to give up so much to bring in Lowry. Sure, he’s a great fit for this team but losing three rotational players seems too steep and is the type of move that could really hurt this team. I honestly see it as two steps forward and three steps back.
Zu is too important to this team, especially when we face bigger rosters. Lou, despite his playoff struggles, is important as a scoring punch off the bench. Beverley’s defense would be missed even if Lowry did provide more on the offensive end. I just can’t see the team sacrificing depth and having to build new chemistry this late in the season.
Rozier, is maybe a bit more likely however I haven’t really seen any indication that Charlotte is keen on moving him. With the way this front office operates, maybe they pull this off while no rumors surface. We did have interest in him during the offseason but it’s been quiet since. We’ll just have to wait a week and see.
