LA Clippers Trade Reason # 1. Jerry West is the Greatest Team Builder in the Modern Era

Since Jerry West became one of the LA Clippers’ main executives in 2017, they have been very active in the trade market. Before and during the season, West has been highly instrumental in the development of the Clippers to the team they are now. Jerry West is one of the best team developers of all-time in the NBA especially in the modern era of the NBA.

In his time as an executive in the NBA, West has brought in players such as Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal for the Los Angeles Lakers. When West became an executive board member for the Golden State Warriors, he was instrumental in developing one of the most dominant dynasties in NBA history. West joined the LA Clippers to develop a new elite program in the Western Conference.

In one of his first moves for the LA Clippers, West orchestrated a sign-and-trade for long-time point guard Chris Paul to be sent to the Houston Rockets. This move gave the Clippers seven players including Beverley and Williams, a 2018 NBA first-round pick, and cash considerations. That same season, the Clippers traded for Danilo Gallinari in a three-way trade that established Williams as the main scorer off the bench.

The biggest move for the Clippers was the signing of Kawhi Leonard and the trade of Paul George from the Thunder in the previous offseason. Last year’s NBA Trade Deadline featured Marcus Morris and Isaiah Thomas to the Clippers in a three-team trade. The most recent trade featured Landry Shamet and Rodney McGruder in a three-team trade for Kennard and four second-round picks.

Most, if not all, of the trades by West and the LA Clippers’ front office have been successful. West has been an executive with a high basketball IQ in the modern trend of basketball as well as how to properly develop elite teams without costing that team too much in the future. If West and the front office believe there is a potential move to make before the NBA Trade Deadline, they should have the support of Clipper Nation.
