Tonight, the LA Clippers head to Brooklyn to face the Nets. The two teams are loaded with top-tier talent in Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving. Being a nationally televised game, this will undoubtedly get some hype and rightfully so.

Tonight’s game between the LA Clippers and Brooklyn Nets could be a preview of the NBA Finals.

Certainly, there are other top teams and a Finals appearance is not guaranteed for either franchise but they are two of the top teams in the league as it currently stands. The Clippers come into the game with the top Net Rating in the league and have won 10 of their last 11 games with the lone loss coming in Atlanta in a game that George, Leonard, nor Patrick Beverley played in.

Brooklyn is the “hot” team right now, having just brought James Harden into the fold to create a new big three. The Nets boast three offensive juggernauts but the trade came at the cost of their defense and they cannot currently stop anyone.

That is all to say that while tonight might be a good chance to see how the two team’s superstars match up, a Finals match-up will likely have both teams looking slightly different.

Many have predicted that the Clippers have a trade to make, whether it is for another point guard for the second unit or someone else. The Nets have already reportedly looked at several trade options to shore up their roster although nothing has come to fruition. They figure to be big players on the buyout market, hoping to grab someone like a PJ Tucker, should he become available.

There is a chance that we don’t see James Harden on the court after he missed Sunday’s game against the Wizards but even if he doesn’t play, the Clips will have their hands full with Durant and Irving. The Clips will also be without Beverley who will factor heavily into the defensive side of any potential series.

Although tonight won’t be a full indicator of a series between these two powerhouses, it should give fans a good taste of what to expect should the two teams meet in June.
