LA Clippers are best in the West but are they top in power rankings?
The LA Clippers may have broken their win streak this week after falling in Atlanta but outside of that, they had another successful week. With Paul George and Kawhi Leonard both now back in the lineup following health and safety protocol, how did the team rank in this week’s power rankings?
ESPN Power Rankings: LA Clippers #1
Look at that! The LA Clippers are now sitting in the top spot on ESPN! the Clips are clicking on all cylinders and as Ohm Youngmisuk notes, Ty Lue is seemingly doing everything right for the team thus far into the season.
Bleacher Report Power Rankings: LA Clippers #3
After having them in the top spot last week, the LA Clippers drop to third in Bleacher Report’s power rankings. Their logic? The schedule.
"It may seem unfair to drop them from the top spot, but the teams ahead of them beat better competition last week. Only one team they faced last week had a winning record."
I mean, yes. That is unfair. The Clippers played who was in front of them and are penalized because those teams don’t have a winning record. Luckily, power rankings don’t mean anything in the big scheme, so it is what it is.
CBS Sports Power Rankings: LA Clippers #3
Another drop happened for the LA Clippers on CBS, this time from two down to three. While CBS doesn’t give an exact reason for the drop, it makes sense given who their top two teams are.
Both the Philadelphia 76ers and Utah Jazz have looked great as of late, especially Utah who only had their 11 game win streak ended due to a lights-out shooting performance from the Denver Nuggets. The Jazz looked great otherwise this week, as did Philly so again, the drop is what it is.
NBA.com Power Rankings: LA Clippers #1
NBA.com recognizes that the LA Clippers are the top team in the league. Even despite not having PG and Kawhi for a couple of games this week, the team still has the top Net Rating in the league and hung around with a good Hawks team. While that’s well and good, it’s amazing just how good the duo have been.
"Leonard and George are both shooting better than 50% from the field, 40% from 3-point range, and 90% from the line. The Clippers have won nine straight games in which they’ve played and outscored their opponents by 19.2 points per 100 possessions in 383 total minutes with both of them on the floor."
With games against Brooklyn, a wily Cleveland team, and Boston this week, we’ll see just how good the LA Clippers are.
