LA Clippers: 3 Players Exceeding Expectations This 2020-2021 Season
LA Clippers Players Exceeding Expectations: Paul George
Before the start of the 2020-2021 NBA season, the six-time All-NBA shooting guard/small forward Paul George revitalized his career with the Clippers. Just a few weeks before the season, George signed a four-year extension to remain with Los Angeles. This move was met under tremendous criticism due to the lack of elite productivity in the playoffs in combination with his expensive contract.
The disappointment with his performance last playoffs stems from a large amount of regular-season success that he accounts for every season. The expectations were incredibly high this season for George from the start, both in the regular season and in the postseason. So far in the 13 games played for the Clippers, not only is George playing to the expectations and above the criticism from his haters and trolls, he is definitely surpassing them.
In the 13 games, George is averaging 24.8 points (14th in the league), 6.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. George is shooting at a highly-efficient level this season, benefiting from the Clippers’ new offensive philosophy.
So far this season, George is shooting a career-high field-goal percentage of 51% as well as a career-high three-point shooting percentage of 51% (10th highest in the league). Among the top 15 players in three-point percentage in the season, George has the highest player efficiency rating with a 24.06.
George has only had four games in his13 total games played where he shot below 50% from the field. He is playing at an MVP-level as he continues to create his own shots, shoot consistently from behind the three-point-arc, play solidly without the ball on offense and playing inspired defense.
George is surpassing expectations by playing the best season of his stellar career so far. Only time will tell if he can continue playing like an MVP candidate but George is playing more comfortably and ready to shed negativity from his past failed expectations.
