3. What to watch for from the LA Clippers: Can Ivica Zubac turn it around?
For all the bright spots on this team this season, Ivica Zubac has been one of the few negatives. After having a breakout season last year for the Clippers, many thought we would see continued growth out of the young center.
Instead, he was moved to the bench in favor of Serge Ibaka and has looked to have regressed a little. His game doesn’t look fluid, he seems to force shots at times, and his hands just aren’t there. That doesn’t mean we should count him out, though.
Many assume most of Zu’s issues are mental, stemming from going to the second unit. On nights like tonight where the Clippers have an easier opponent, Zu should look to build back that confidence.
As mentioned earlier, Myles Turner will miss tonight’s contest. The team’s backup bigs, JaKarr Sampson and Goga Bitadze are listed as day-to-day and out, respectively. What does that mean? It means Zu should have a field day.
Not many bigs match Zu’s size but with the Pacers being short-handed, this is a night where he can really thrive. Zu should get a ton of putbacks and touches which will serve to build up his confidence.
If the Clips do get up big, he could also get some extended run. Don’t be surprised if we see Zu drop 15+ points tonight.
