LA Clippers Key to Victory #3: Can the Clips attack inside?

A key to the LA Clippers attack, especially if Bev and Lou end up missing time, will be how they attack the interior. So far this season, they haven’t been particularly willing to do so; they’re next to last in the league in attempts within 5 feet, with a paltry 21.3 attempts per game. For context, league average is 29.4 per game.

Despite their lack of willingness to attack the rim, they’re hovering around league average in field goal percentage within 5 feet. And that will be important as they go against a Sacramento defense anchored by Richaun Holmes – a defense which allows the 5th highest percentage in the NBA from in close.

If the Clips lose a couple players who contribute to their dominance from range, the Kings’ defense presents an opportunity to make up for that. I’m looking for Serge Ibaka and Ivica Zubac to be aggressive in the pick and roll, and for Paul George to attack the rim like we know he’s capable of doing.

The extreme optimist in me says that this could be a blessing in disguise for the LA Clippers. They’ve been so effective from deep that some other parts of the offense haven’t been coming along like I’d hoped they would. I’d like to see the Clippers start figuring out how to attack better when the three isn’t falling, and this game could provide the opportunity to do just that.
