LA Clippers: 3 Takeaways from Clippers’ 4-2 Record This Season

This 2020-2021 NBA Season has been the beginning of a rebound season for the LA Clippers. We give our takeaways from the first 6 games.

In the first six games of the season, the LA Clippers have started off with a respectable 4-2 overall record. And while their record has been on-par with what some experts projected within the first six games, the way that the Clippers accounted for the record is positively surprising. They started off the season with a big win against their rivals in the Los Angeles Lakers with a 116-109 score. The Lakers came in the game as a two-point favorite over their in-town rivals.

Three days later on Christmas Day, the Clippers took on the Denver Nuggets as the close favorites in their first matchup since losing their series against them in the second round of the 2020 NBA Playoffs. The Clippers soundly defeated the Nuggets with a 121-108 score.

It wasn’t until the next game against the Dallas Mavericks where the Clippers suffered their first loss. The Clippers lost to the Mavericks with a 124-73 score as they were down 77-27 at the end of the first half. This was the first game without small forward Kawhi Leonard with a mouth laceration that required eight stitches.

The Clippers beat the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Portland Trail Blazers as they scored at least 120 points in both games. On New Years Day, the Clippers lost to the Utah Jazz in Utah with a tough 106-100 score where the defense of the Jazz was highly efficient.

There are plenty of huge factors for the Clippers to work off of as well as negative attributes they must fix. Clipper Nation is excited to see how the rest of the season will unfold.

Here are three takeaways from the Clippers’ 4-3 start to the 2020-2021 NBA Season.

LA Clippers Takeaway 1: Paul George is Staying True to his Word of a Turnaround Season

Last regular season and postseason was rough for six-time NBA All-Star and first-year Clippers shooting guard Paul George. Last season, George averaged 21.5 points per game while recovering from surgeries on both of his shoulders from the offseason before. George played well in many occasions, but he had too many inconsistent performances in his first year with Los Angeles, especially in the postseason.

George made it clear that he would have a tremendous turnaround this season with the Clippers and help them get to their first-year Western Conference Finals appearance. In these six games, George has played at a high-level for the Clippers under new head coach Ty Lue.

Even with Kawhi Leonard leading the triangle offense, George is proving that he can still be the orchestrator of the Clippers’ offense. In six games played this season, George has averaged 22.8 points per game, 6.2 rebounds per game, 5.3 assists per game, and 1.7 steals per game. He has shot 47.9% on field goals, with a three-point shooting percentage of 45.1 %, and a free-throw shooting percentage of 92.5%.

PG has been the team’s leading scorer in four of the six games for the Clippers this season , and he’s led the team in assists three times. Against the Lakers, he accounted for 33 points, six rebounds, and three assists. In the game against Denver, George accounted for 23 points, five rebounds, and nine assists. In the last game against Utah, George accounted for 25 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.

George is a playmaker that will look to fill whatever role needed to get the Clippers one step closer to victory and a high playoff position. He has been one of the most reliable consistent players for the Clippers this season, especially with Leonard being out for two games.
