LA Clippers Stat #3: 5.2, and 1.9

We’re back to how Ty Lue’s system has been great for the LA Clippers in terms of taking care of the ball, but this time we’re looking at one guy in particular.

Kawhi Leonard has had a great start to the season in that regard. Our superstar is averaging 6.5 assists and just 1.3 turnovers, for an ast/to ratio of 5.2. Of course, it’s early in the season, but that’s several times better than last year, when he averaged 4.9 assists and 2.6 turnovers for a 1.88 ast/to ratio.

This can be credited to Lue putting Kawhi in some triangle action. It’s something that we’ve heard Kawhi and Lue both wanted to do, and we’re seeing that happen so far; believe it or not, the two might have actually known what would be good for the superstar wing.

In fact, in his past two games – 30 minutes against Portland and 39 against Portland – he put up 16 assists with a grand total of 0 turnovers.

It feels like Kawhi’s really enjoying himself in Lue’s system, and it’s hard to complain when it’s letting him help run the offense and not give the ball away. When your star is pulling these kinds of performances, it is absolutely going to lead to a record like the one we have today.

To me, if the Clippers can keep up the performances that have led to these statistics, I expect a great record and a high seed at the end of the season. Right now, their record has them on pace for 48 wins, which is the equivalent of 55 wins in an 82 game season. As the team adjusts more and more to Lue’s system, I’m looking for one of the best win percentages in team history this year.
