LA Clippers: Best Internet Reactions to Kawhi Leonard’s Mask
In his triumphant return to the LA Clippers, Kawhi Leonard sported a mask, and the internet had a field day reacting to it.
It wasn’t until just before tipoff that we learned Kawhi Leonard would return to the court for the LA Clippers. When that information released, we weren’t informed at all about the mask he would be wearing on the floor.
But once the game started, nobody could miss the clear half-face cover that the Klaw was sporting.
The internet being what it is, everyone immediately jumped on to joke about the mask. At first, we here at Clipperholics jumped straight to the Batman villain Bane as our comparison.
However, as it would turn out, Bane wasn’t the number one comparison. Instead, Twitter did a slightly deeper dive into film culture and went with Hannibal Lecter, from Silence of the Lambs. The boys over at the Locked On Podcast showed off a quality Photoshop from another Twitter user of Kawhi in Lecter’s mask.
We here at Clipperholics had a similar idea for a joke, but as the artist behind the masterpiece, I will admit that it was slightly less refined. Potentially because it was created in Paint.
It wasn’t just Bane and Hannibal Lecter though. The Clipset podcast had Jim Carrey on the mind, making the comparison between Kawhi and a childhood favorite. For non-Clipperholics jokes, this one is number one for me personally.
We can’t just point out the jokes made by us blog boys on the internet. The LA Clippers themselves got into the mix, but they decided to step out of the arena of movie jokes entirely. Instead, the team went straight to referencing an old school Future song with their joke.
Kawhi himself actually weighed in on the jokes, saying that his teammates were calling him names like “Leatherface,” but he joked that Serge Ibaka specifically couldn’t talk, because he is now on the trading block after elbowing Kawhi.
