3. LA Clippers Takeaway: Playmaking by committee

One of the biggest concerns everyone had about the LA Clippers was that the team lacked a true playmaker. Sure, Patrick Beverley is a very solid starting point guard but he is not exactly known as the type of guy to set up his teammates.

Last night versus Minnesota, that concern was unsubstantiated. The team finished with 32 assists on 47 makes. That’s an assist on 68% of their made shots. Seven players on the Clippers had 3+ assists. Paul George and Lou Williams led the team with five apiece but the group really proved that playmaking by committee can work.

This is a product of the new offense Ty Lue has put in. In years past under Doc Rivers, there seemed to be a lot more isolation, resulting in the ball getting stuck. Now, the team moves the ball freely, evident by last night.

If they can get this type of team effort, the percieved need for a playmaker will dissappear and the team will be harder to predict. If everyone is moving the ball, the offense becomes harder to predict. Let’s hope this trend keeps up.
