Who will be the LA Clippers’ locker room leader?

In the wake of the Clippers’ departure from Orlando, one of the biggest critiques of the side was a lack of veteran leadership amidst their playoff collapse.

After a bitter postseason exit, Lawrence Frank’s front-office has refreshed the roster ahead of the 2020/21 season by acquiring sharpshooter Luke Kennard and NBA Champion Serge Ibaka to join a Clippers squad largely unversed in deep postseason runs.

The addition of Ibaka looms particularly significant for the Clippers, who will be the beneficiaries of another veteran presence with the acumen and pedigree imperative to gaining silverware.

It is Ibaka’s shrewdness that Lue will demand from his newest piece, who will emerge as a key cultural figure under a new Clippers infrastructure. Cultivating and accepting this veteran voice will forge a new layer of composure in the locker room that can remain impervious to the turbulence of an imminently chaotic 2020/21 season.

In this capacity, the Clippers will welcome a quality that was so vitally absent throughout last season. It promises to be fascinating just how much impact another player with a championship-pedigree will have on the roster.
