LA Clippers Pitch #3 to Serge Ibaka: Reunion With Kawhi

The Kawhi Leonard pitch is one that no other team can match, and it may give the LA Clippers one more leg up on courting Serge Ibaka.

If he signed here, Serge would reunite with the guy who helped bring him to a championship. In that Game 7 against Philadelphia, Ibaka was one of the only guys to have a good game next to Kawhi, and the memories of those playoff battles could bring him to LA.

Kawhi and Ibaka fit well together on and off the court. A wing defender who can score with ease pairs very well with a solid rim protector who can hit jumpshots. And off the court, let’s not forget the time Serge fed Kawhi a pizza with some… less than common toppings on it.

Throughout the season, there seemed to be some real camaraderie between Serge and Kawhi. If there’s a friendship there, the Clippers would be wise to use that as a selling point to bring the big man in to reunite with his friend.

Of course, there is a similar argument to be made with Kevin Durant in Brooklyn. Serge did play in Oklahoma City with KD, but that situation feels different. For starters, the way Kawhi left Toronto felt much more amicable than KD leaving OKC. It helps that Kawhi brought a title to the city, so I would suspect Serge would be much more interested in a Kawhi reunion than a Durant one.

When you put it all together, Serge can make more money, he can have more of a role, and he can play with a friend and former championship teammate. All by signing with the LA Clippers.
