After the departure of two bigs, here are three ways the LA Clippers can seal the deal with Aaron Baynes.

The LA Clippers lost both JaMychal Green and Montrezl Harrell in free agency. We know that much. What we don’t know is how they plan to replace them. The team does have some young talent, such as Mfiondu Kabengele but there are still potential targets on the market. One of those players who are still available is Aron Baynes.

Baynes is reportedly not returning to the Phoenix Suns, meaning the Clippers have a fair shot at signing him. Here are three pitches they can throw his way to help seal the deal.

LA Clippers Pitch #1 to Aron Baynes: The Possible Contract

With the LA Clippers not really making any moves since free agency has started outside of re-signing Marcus Morris and Patrick Patterson, they have some money to burn. While I don’t think the soon to be 34-year-old center will garner a ton of money, the team could through their bi-annual exception at him.

The approximately $3.5 that Baynes would get from the Clippers is probably one of the better offers he could get. Combined with the chance to win a title and playing in Los Angeles, the money could be a deciding factor and something that the Clippers’ front office should really push.

There’s also the possibility that they have part of the mid-level exception left and could give Baynes part of that instead but I don’t see the team throwing him much more than the bi-annual.

After all, if the team doesn’t use the exception, they don’t get anything in return. If they feel like Baynes really can take over the backup center position, paying him the bi-annual exception is probably the right call.

This isn’t to imply he’s not worth the money, either. Baynes still has some game left and his size and shooting can really help if he’s in the right role.
