The LA Clippers should pursue Jrue Holiday

Another trade rumor that the LA Clippers should pursue. Last week we learned that Jrue Holiday might be on the trade market, and immediately we set to building trade ideas.

Jrue brings a lot of versatility to the table and fits nicely next to the Clippers’ stars. He can play on or off ball. He is a quality passer who can run an offense, and he might be the best defender at the point guard position in the league. Last season he averaged 19 points, 4.8 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game

He’s making $25 Million this coming year, and next year he has a player option for $26 Million. That’s much more affordable than a Russell Westbrook or Chris Paul, and it makes it easier for the Clips to put together a trade package for him.

The big question will be if the Clippers can put together an attractive enough package to get him. Several teams will likely be interested in trading for Holiday, so there will be plenty of competition.

It might come down to where Jrue wants to go. There’s no indication that he’s fixated on coming to LA, but if he is, other teams could be afraid of making the deal if Jrue will likely walk in a year.

It’s not a very probable trade, if we’re being honest. There’s a lot of “ifs” that go into making it happen. But if there’s any shot at all, Jrue would be the perfect third piece next to Kawhi and Paul George, so the Clips should pull out the stops to pursue this one.
