LA Clippers NBA Draft Prospect #3 – Cassius Stanley (Duke)

Cassius Stanley out of Duke is probably the more attainable player on this list for the LA Clippers. He’s currently projected as a mid-second round pick given his many flaws. Stanley is seriously athletic but lacks size at 6’6″, 193lbs and has a lot of room for improvement. His weaknesses from The Ringer’s Draft Profile:

"Tunnel vision is a problem on offense: Too often, he’ll catch the ball, aimlessly dribble, and take a tough shot instead of making an easy pass. Struggles to execute the simple play, whether it’s an entry pass to the post or a bounce pass to a cutter breaking toward the rim. Loose handle, which prevents him from creating much separation on drives or pull-ups. Lack of length and size limits his defensive effectiveness against larger scorers. Ball-watches far too often on defense, which puts him out of position to recover and make a play."

Stanley probably isn’t the type of player that you can insert now like Bey and to a lesser extent, McDaniels. He would greatly benefit from some time in the G-League in order to refine his game.

Stanley’s offensive game is there but just needs more focus. He can play as a catch-and-shoot guy or as an energy guy to attack the rim/catch lobs but doesn’t have the best ball handling. If he has trouble dribbling and can get pushed around by the bigger athletes in the NBA, he will have a tough go of it. Still, as a project pick, the Clippers could do worse.
