LA Clippers Prospect #3 – Cassius Winston (Michigan State)

If you have watched any college basketball over the past four seasons, I am positive that you have seen Cassius Winston suit up for Tom Izzo and Michigan State.

Winston is a four year player for the Spartans, making him a bit more mature than most players in the draft. He comes in at 6’1″ and 185 lbs. The combination of his lack of height and being a little underweight isn’t great. Winston is a solid playmaker, putting up 6.4 assists in his four years. He’s also a great shooter from deep, connecting on 43.0% of his 4.3 attempts per deep during his career.

Outside of that impressive shooting, there’s nothing outright great nor awful about Winston. Everything about him just screams “good, not great”. There’s nothing wrong with that but it makes sense why that along with his age puts him as a mid-second round pick.

If the Clippers aren’t happy with any of the available point guards on the free agent market, Winston might be the guy to target. Since he’s older and doesn’t seem to have any extreme flaws, he could in theory be thrown in as the backup PG and be enough of a stop-gap until someone else could be found via trades or the buyout market.
