The LA Clippers have the right front office for a condensed free agency.
Over the past several years, the LA Clippers have developed into a real threat to win a title in the NBA. This change is largely in part due to their skilled front office who have made the right moves to not only get star players like Kawhi Leonard and Paul George but to grab solid surrounding role players like Patrick Beverley, Lou Williams, JaMychal Green, and Montrezl Harrell.
With free agency this season likely being a whirlwind, fans should be reassured that this front office is well equipped to handle the craziness will follow.
All signs currently point towards the 2020-21 NBA season starting up on December 22. With that in mind, everything that happens in a normal offseason will more or less be condensed to the month of November.
The turnaround from the Draft to free agency is unprecedented but the Clippers can look at this in a positive light. They only have the 57th pick in the Draft, likely a non-factor player for any time in the near future. The team has had months (especially during the quarantine period) to get their potential pick nailed down, meaning they won’t be as focused on the Draft as other teams who have multiple picks.
Free agency should be their main focus. They only realistically have the mid-level exception and veteran minimums to sign players with so it’s reasonable that re-signing their own free agents and possibly making sign-and-trades are real routes that will be explored. This front office has likely been hard at work since they were eliminated from the playoffs and probably have a pile of potential moves ready to go.
While they cannot predict everything that will happen in free agency, the front office most likely has a plan in place to improve the roster. It’s no secret that they will be looking to upgrade their playmaking and bench, so expect them to make swift but calculated moves as soon as free agency opens up.
The LA Clippers front office has a proven track record at this point and should inspire confidence in fans even with a condensed offseason becoming a reality. What moves do you want to see them make? Let us know on Twitter and check back here as we prepare for free agency!
