How the LA Clippers can dethrone the Lakers: Find the right coach

More important than upgrading their roster might be upgrading their coach. With the removal of Doc Rivers, the LA Clippers absolutely have to find the right guy. Not only are they trying to dethrone the Lakers next season but they are also trying to convince Kawhi Leonard and Paul George to stay. By extension, they are also trying to prove to future potential free agents that they can listen to their team and make appropriate changes.

That all starts with hiring the right head coach. Luckily for all of us, the team is being extremely methodical and are interviewing several candidates before settling on someone. We know what the team needs. There are several things that the new head coach can do differently than Doc did.

I mean, let’s face it. If the Clippers had a different coach, they very well may have been sitting where the Lakers are now. That isn’t to say they don’t have issues but the fact remains that if Doc had listened to his analytics, he would have seen that some of his rotations were costing the team games before it was too late. That one small change could have the Clippers in the Western Conference Finals against the Lakers and who knows what happens then.
