3. Reggie Jackson

Sigh. This isn’t where we wanted to be with our backup point guard situation but it’s becoming a reality. Reggie Jackson just hasn’t been good.

Seriously. I dare you to name one positive from last night outside of “he was an NBA player on the court”. Honestly, that’s probably even a negative.

Reggie’s statline last night: 16 minutes played, 0-5 from the field, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 fouls.

He just didn’t really add much of anything and still dominated the ball. During the Mavs run in the second quarter, there was a period of time that I didn’t even realize Kawhi Leonard was on the court because he did not touch the ball for multiple posessions. Call me crazy, but when Kawhi Leonard isn’t touching the ball, something is wrong.

Do I think Reggie is unplayable? Not just yet. What he needs to do is realize what his role should be, not what he wants it to be. If he is going to play alongside the second unit, he needs to become a facilitator. It looks like Doc is going to try and stagger PG and Kawhi, so at all times, Reggie will share the court with at least them and probably at least one of Lou Williams, Montrezl Harrell, and Marcus Morris.

At this point, they are all better scoring options then Jackson. If he can get them more involved, maybe it opens up his scoring game. If he is starting to get open looks, then sure, he can and should take them. But what he did last night was not what this team needs. We haven’t even touched on the defense but that spoke for itself.

Reggie can be better. I still feel like he has that ability in him and can really help in a game or two during these playoffs. Let’s see it!

The LA Clippers “host” Dallas again on Wednestday night at 9:00 PM EST/6:00 PM PST. Hopefully the team can pull off another victory while showing improvement in the process.
