LA Clippers’ Patrick Beverley: No taking off & everyone has a voice
The LA Clippers’ Patrick Beverley says he doesn’t take time off.
Did anyone else miss Patrick Beverley as much as I did? The LA Clippers’ point guard sat down today for media availability and answered questions only as he could.
There were a few classic “Bev doesn’t like the media” type of answers which we have come to expect but he did offer some insight into how he handled preparing for the NBA season resuming in Orlando during the league’s hiatus.
Bev on the league being on a hiatus and if it was tough for him to be away from the game:
"No, for me basketball is a year-round sport. I don’t know anything about taking off. I just been doing what I’ve been doing throughout the last couple years: working on my body, working on my craft, working on my mind, trying to make myself the best weapon possible."
Doesn’t that just scream Patrick Beverley? I believe him, too. Bev was active on social media during the hiatus and participated in ESPN’s 2K tournament but it only makes sense that he was actively working on himself the rest of the time. We know the team sent out workout equipment to everyone so he had the tools necessary to keep his body ready.
Patrick Beverley also spoke about the team’s leadership and said that everyone in the locker room has a voice.
Bev comes off as one of the more vocal leaders on the team given how he acts on the court, but according to him, everyone on the Clippers has a voice no matter their position in the pecking order.
"I just think everyone on our team, you know how we roll, everyone has a voice no matter if you’re the top dog or not getting a lot of time at all. Everybody has a voice. We listen to everybody. Me, PG, Lou, Trez, Mook, all the veterans on the team, we try to make sure we in contact with every guy at least once or twice a week.Really wasn’t like a break for us because we’re in so much communication all the time. Just to get those words, say those things in person is definitely a different feeling when you get around all the guys. It’s a brotherhood here, camaraderie here. We just picked up where we left off"
Again, it sounds like the team conducting meetings and workouts via Zoom really helped this team stay connected.
It’s great that Bev even noted that Mook (Marcus Morris) was making sure to stay in contact with everyone on the team at least once or twice a week given how new he is to the roster. With additions like Morris, Reggie Jackson, and Joakim Noah happening just weeks before the season was put on hold, building that brotherhood via online interaction became a necessity.
The LA Clippers are saying the right things and look ready in the images we are able to see from their first few practices. Hopefully, all of this translates well onto the court as the team pushes for their first-ever championship.
