LA Clippers: Kawhi Leonard is mentally and physically ready for the restart
The LA Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard is mentally and physically ready for the NBA restart.
On Sunday, Kawhi Leonard joined the LA Clippers in the bubble in Orlando. On Monday, he was able to sit down and have media availability for the first time since the season was postponed.
His message?
He’s ready not just physically, but mentally.
Leonard told reporters that he was a little “selfish” during the hiatus in the sense that he made sure he was as healthy as possible and kept himself in situations that would ensure his health was the main priority. Leonard noted that as things opened up, it began to felt normal albeit for the constant need to be aware of your own safety.
As for his body, many have questioned how Leonard’s knee will feel after all this time off. He notoriously load manages during the regular season now but with just eight games to get ready before the postseason, there have been questions.
"Has it been four months? I mean, I feel good. You know, was able to work out, get strong and prepare for this moment now that we’re in. It’s about to be the first practice today, so I’m excited."
He also said the four months off essentially are an offseason and should be treated as such.
"I mean, it’s just like an off-season pretty much. You usually have three months and then come in for a training camp, have a couple practices, then you’ve got the preseason games. That’s pretty much the mindset. But like everybody knows, you only get eight games to get ready for the postseason. But pretty much just take that same timeline to prepare yourself. Everybody knows their body and knows what they need to do, so I mean, it’s going to be my first practice today, so we’re going to go out and see how I feel and then just go from there, just keep building off of that. But nobody knows."
Having Kawhi back on the practice court is just one more step in the right direction. As the LA Clippers push to get ready for the season resumption, it’s great to see that Kawhi Leonard is both physically and mentally ready to play the game.
