LA Clippers: Quibi set to release documentary, “Blackballed”, about Donald Sterling
A documentary surrounding LA Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling and the moments that led up to his exile from the league will air on Quibi.
Near the end of Episode 5 and 6 of “The Last Dance” yesterday, a new streaming platform by the name of Quibi released a teaser trailer about the 2013-14 LA Clippers team and notorious owner Donald Sterling.
Among those featured in the commercial were current Clippers head coach Doc Rivers, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Chris Paul, Brooklyn Nets center DeAndre Jordan, New Orleans Pelicans guard J.J. Redick, and retired NBA player Matt Barnes.
Surprisingly, the one name not mentioned was former Clipper star Blake Griffin, who has many stories about him and Sterling from the past.
Could he and the team still be at odds? Who knows but maybe he didn’t want to participate in this documentary.
Also shown in the commercial included two media personalities in Kenny Smith and Jemele Hill. During the 2013-14 NBA Playoffs, Donald Sterling was recorded saying racist remarks about former Los Angeles Laker star Earvin “Magic” Johnson to his girlfriend at the time, V.Stiviano.
To now get a documentary that cites what every member of that team went through during that grueling seven game series against the up-and-coming Golden State Warriors will finally shed light on questions that fans have held onto for years.
Once Sterling’s remarks came out after Game 3 of the first-round matchup between the Clippers and the Warriors, every team in the Playoffs participated in flipping around their warm-up shirts to block their team’s logo and stand up for those on the Clippers.
Doc Rivers was applauded for the way he handled this situation and kept his team focused on getting to the NBA Finals.
The Clippers would ultimately lose in the next round to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 6 games, ending their roller-coaster of a season filled with anger and emotions.
Shortly after the season, the NBA approved the sale of the LA Clippers for a record number of $2 Billion to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.
Commissioner Adam Silver also announced that Donald Sterling would be banned from the NBA for life and fined $2.5 million for his racist comments made.
“Blackballed”, the new documentary set to release on Quibi, will premiere on May 11th and is available to stream on all devices.
For those having difficulty signing for Quibi, I recommend waiting to sign up until May 11th, when the documentary releases.
Quibi offers a 14-day free trial for new users and with no word yet if this a one-day documentary or several parts like “The Last Dance”, this is your best bet at getting to watch this.
