The sky really is the limit for a healthy LA Clippers squad
After the LA Clippers win over the Denver Nuggets Friday, Kawhi Leonard said the sky is the limit for the team. He’s extremely right.
With their win over the Denver Nuggets on Friday, the LA Clippers moved to 40-19 and sit tied for second in the Western Conference. After the victory, Kawhi Leonard was quoted saying that the sky is the limit.
"“I mean sky’s the limit,” Leonard said when seeing what the Clippers are capable of when focused and inspired. “We have very talented players, we got some youth, veterans, and when it’s all put together, I feel like we can be one of the top teams. It’s about just keep sustaining our health and trusting each other and just taking it one game at a time.”"
Sustaining our health is the key factor. The team is still capable of competing when key pieces are missing from the rotation but they are more susceptible to blowing leads or outright losing to teams that are simply less talented. However, when they are fully healthy, the team is 7-0. Three of the victories have come during the recent three-game winning streak.
The streak the team has put together should extend on Sunday when they host a Philadelphia 76ers team which is missing both superstars, Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid.
After the Philadelphia game, the Clippers enter a tough week. They head on the road to face the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday and Houston Rockets on Thursday prior to returning home for a Staples Center showdown next Sunday with the Los Angeles Lakers. Coincidentally, if the team continues to win, a victory against the Lakers would put their win streak at seven tying the high this season.
While the regular season “doesn’t matter”, seeing a solid win streak put together mainly coming against other playoff teams would reinforce how scary this Clippers’ team really can be. This week’s slate of games will require a full team effort to pull out victories. Paul George will have to score as he did on Friday. The bench will have to keep or even extend leads. They are fully capable. As Kawhi said, the sky is the limit.
