Other lineups

While Doc will likely roll with those two units for the rest of the regular season, we are likely to see rotations tighten along with some different situational lineups tossed in. Here are some of those potential groups.

Closing group

  • PG – Patrick Beverley
  • SG – Lou Williams
  • SF – Paul George
  • PF – Kawhi Leonard
  • C – Montrezl Harrell

This closing group has a TON of offensive firepower while still being okay defensively. Lou is obviously the worst defender of this group and will have to be hidden on the opponent’s worst offensive player. Trezz will also have to be extra active on defense since this lineup is a bit undersized. Still, with Lou, PG, Kawhi, and Trezz all being dominant on the offensive end, this lineup should do well closing out opponents.

Rocket-like small ball

  • PG – Patrick Beverley
  • SG – Landry Shamet
  • SF – Paul George
  • PF – Kawhi Leonard
  • C – Marcus Morris

We saw Marcus Morris briefly at the center position in the game in Philadelphia. While I don’t see that move working against someone like Joel Embiid, there are times opponents will go small and this lineup can be effective. The team can switch one through five defensively and by having Shamet inserted with four of the starters, there will be a huge amount of space on the offensive end.

Rebounding will be a team effort but that shouldn’t be an issue. George has had several double-digit rebounding games, Leonard is averaging a career-high in rebounds, and we all know Beverley isn’t afraid to get down there and bang.

Spacing

  • PG – Patrick Beverley
  • SG – Landry Shamet
  • SF – Paul George
  • PF – Kawhi Leonard
  • C – Ivica Zubac

This is a lineup I have called for all season. With Shamet being the “worst” defender of the bunch, this unit is already extremely solid. On offense, Shamet and Beverley can space the floor for George and Leonard to go to work. They can run the pick-and-roll with Ivica Zubac or isolate defenders. Regardless, opponents will have trouble attempting to stop this group.

Prior to the Marcus Morris signing, I was partially hopeful this would be the closing unit. With him, Lou, and Trezz all as options though, I am willing to bet we only see this lineup minimally.
