Number 1: Kawhi Leonard, All-Star MVP
Dancing is fun and all but there was no way this could be topped. Entering the weekend, I can assure you that no one thought out of all the superstars playing that Kawhi Leonard would be hoisting the All-Star Kobe Bryant MVP trophy.
Honestly, Kawhi really didn’t either. He told the Inside the NBA crew after the game that he really didn’t set out to win the award. Instead, he just connected on his first two attempts from deep and decided to keep shooting.
Kawhi ended the night with a game-high 30 points, hitting 8 of his 14 three-point attempts. He was one three-pointer shy of tying his LA Clippers’ teammate, Paul George, for most threes hit in the All-Star game. He also pulled down seven rebounds and had four assists and two steals.
Only he and Michael Jordan can claim they have a Finals MVP, a Defensive Player of the Year Award, and an All-Star MVP. Not bad for the Board Man.
Kawhi winning the All-Star MVP is a great moment for him and Clipper Nation but both parties are hoping he is again holding up that Finals MVP when the season ends. The Clippers currently sit in third place in the West and have just 27 games to make a final push before the postseason.
