The Guards

Unlike the bigs mentioned on the previous page, a guard that is signed could get meaningful minutes. Jerome Robinson did figure into the rotation for Doc Rivers somewhat and depending on who we get, could usurp Rodney McGruder‘s place as well.

Darren Collison – Retired

We all have heard about this guy, right? He is in the midst of deciding whether or not to un-retire. If he does, he is expected to choose between the Clippers and Lakers. He was seen at Thursday night’s Lakers game sitting next to Jeanne Buss, so I would think the writing is on the wall as to who he will join.

Tyler Johnson – Phoenix Suns

Tyler Johnson might not be a “true” playmaker but he has proven he can contribute to a team. His numbers are slightly down this season in Phoenix. Prior to this season, he averaged double-digit scoring in his last three seasons.

His size at 6’3″ makes him a big point guard and if he’s playing bench minutes, the ball doesn’t necessarily even have to be in his hand. This is the worst year of his career but perhaps a change of scenery could do him well.

Jeremy Lin – Beijing Ducks

File this one under very unlikely, but Jeremy Lin could become available. Lin, who was on the Raptors’ roster last season, has been playing in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). However, due to the coronavirus outbreak, their season has been postponed. If his contract is voided, Lin could come to LA and be in a similar role to last year. As I said, it’s a longshot and I’m not sure how much he helps, if at all, at this point.

Other notable names

Matthew Dellavedova – Cleveland Cavaliers

Reggie Jackson – Detroit Pistons

Raymond Felton – Free agent

Jerryd Bayless – Sichuan Blue Whales

While this is just a small list of expected players who could become available over the next few weeks, there are always surprises in the NBA. The LA Clippers’ front office probably already has a rough idea of who they would like to add as they wait and see who ultimately is available. Make sure you are checking back here for any news on signings when they happen!
