The LA Clippers have reportedly made progress in dealing for New York Knicks’ forward Marcus Morris ahead of the trade deadline according to multiple reports. The team has been in hot pursuit of Morris in hopes to outbid their rival Los Angeles Lakers and now seem like they are on the verge of getting something done.
The most recent reported offer comes via Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer. The offer would send Maurice Harkless, two young players, and a draft pick to the Knicks in exchange for Morris. Judging off the fact that the Clippers refuse to include Landry Shamet in any deals, we would have to suspect that Terance Mann and Mfiondu Kabengele would be the two young guys who are shipped out.
Morris, who does have off the court issues, would be a perfect fit next to Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in the team’s starting lineup. He is averaging a career-high in scoring this season and can provide more floor spacing then Harkless currently does.
While the fit on the court is nice, there is the added bonus that the Lakers lose out on Morris. They have been trying hard to add to their roster to the point that they are dangling Kyle Kuzma in trades. At the time of writing, they have made no moves.
Earlier today the Clippers dumped Derrick Walton Jr. to Atlanta for cash and a second-round pick. This move freed up a roster spot which could mean the Clips take someone else back in this deal or simply wait until the buyout market.
The move for Morris has been expected over the last couple of days after Robert Covington was moved off the board. While Covington probably would have been a better bit defensively, a move for Morris still makes sense.
The Knicks and Clippers are still deep in discussions so make sure you have those Twitter alerts on and that you check back here when and if the deal is completed for grades and more!
