With news that the Phoenix Suns are shopping Kelly Oubre, the LA Clippers should try and acquire the young forward prior to the trade deadline.

In a bit of surprise news, it’s being reported that the Phoenix Suns are shopping Kelly Oubre. The LA Clippers who are looking for wing help should make an offer for the young forward.

The report comes via Marc Stein but no further details have been given. Oubre is just 24 years old and is averaging a career-high 18.5 points for the Suns this season. He hits a solid 34.6% of his attemps from three-point land and he is a solid defender grabbing 1.4 steals per game. Despite his slight frame, he also is a solid rebounder averaging 6.7 per game.

Oubre is signed through the end of next season so this move would set the Clippers up for his contract to expire at the same time as Paul George and Kawhi Leonard’s.

What would it take to bring in Oubre? That’s where this gets tricky. However, the Suns do have a big that is potentially in Aron Baynes so this could become a multi-player deal.

The Clippers would send out Montrezl Harrell and Maurice Harkless in exchange for Oubre and Baynes. While it would be very tough to lose Trezz, he is expiring and will likely get a big payday this summer. The Suns could use their time with him to try and convince him to re-sign. Harkless would mainly be salary filler but would still provide the Suns a defensive minded forward to close out the season.

For the Clippers, they get Oubre who fits well next to both George and Leonard on both ends of the court while also addressing their lack of size at the center position. Baynes has not been great as of late but he looked excellent early on in the season and has proven he can stretch the floor.

The Clippers would likely have to throw in a pick or two in order to get this deal done. They can trade their 2020 first-round pick still but would be better served offering a couple of second-rounders to the Suns to see if that would get the job done.

Clippers shouldn’t trade for the sake of it. dark. Next

While the likelihood of this deal remains to be seen, it’s something worth keeping an eye on going forward. With under 24 hours until the deadline, things will definitely get interesting.
