LA Clippers’ Leonard, George, and Williams toughest to guard per Durant
According to Kevin Durant, the LA Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and Lou Williams are among the hardest assignments in the NBA.
Kevin Durant took to Twitter on Tuesday to answer questions from fans in a more civilized manner than he usually does. Through The Boardroom account, Durant fielded questions including one that asked who the top-five hardest players to guard in the NBA are. Durant’s list included three LA Clippers: Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and Lou Williams.
The other two players on his list were LeBron James and Joel Embiid. Those two make sense, right? LeBron is nearly impossible for anyone to guard and is top one or two all-time depending on who you ask. Embiid is a 7’3 monster, so his inclusion also makes sense.
For the Clippers, Kawhi and PG make sense given their offensive abilities. Durant faced Kawhi briefly in last year’s NBA Finals and got a taste of how good he is when he is fully locked in. George is an annual scoring title contender given his ability to score at every level. While those two may not be shoe-ins on everyone’s list, they still make sense.
Lou Williams is the real oddball here. I don’t think that anyone will argue with you that Lou can absolutely light it up, but he’s not big nor does he possess blinding speed. He’s crafty and plays unorthodox by preferring to go left despite being right-handed.
To no fault of Lou, he’s not a Giannis Antetokounmpo nor a James Harden. His inclusion over those two former MVP’s is pretty odd, especially considering they are the top two scorers in the league this season. But hey, who am I to argue with Kevin Durant?
If he thinks the LA Clippers boast three of the hardest matchups in the league, I certainly will take it. After all, he is one of the best players in the league when healthy and arguably the best scorer all-time, so I think he would know what he’s talking about. It’s no secret that the Clips have a ton of firepower and Lou is scoring just 0.5 points more than teammate Montrezl Harrell. Come playoff time, opponents will have to pick their poison as they try to stop the Clippers.
