Prior to the LA Clippers’ game on Friday head coach Doc Rivers offered some more insight on the Paul George injury.
According to multiple reports, in his pregame presser Doc Rivers offered a little more insight on Paul George‘s strained hamstring. The injury apparently happened during practice on Wednesday- the first of two practices the Clippers held during a four day stretch of no games. Rivers didn’t seem too down about it as he had joked about immediately thinking of Allen Iverson– alluding to Iverson’s infamous “we talkin’ ’bout practice?” rant.
When asked about how the injury occurred it was revealed that it happened while George was playing defense and felt discomfort in his hamstring. The team has since announced that PG would not be traveling with the team to Denver for their contest against the Nuggets on Sunday.
In the short-term, the injury shouldn’t hinder the Clippers too much, as they have already beaten the Warriors once this year without George. But the long term effects of this injury are unknown and are sure to give fans some alarm.
Before going down with this most recent injury Paul George, one of the Clippers massive acquisitions over the summer, was averaging 23.5 points, 6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists a game on shooting splits of 42/32/90%- just on par with his career averages.
Doc did say in his press conference that it was frustrating to have yet another injury in a season seemingly full of them for the team, but that the strain was minor and they expected PG back in games sooner than later.
The team definitely seems eager to only get a fully healthy team back- a luxury they’ve only had for a game this season- and to get Paul George back to the play that helped him finish third in MVP voting last season.
